The picture above left is the first photograph taken of us together when I met her at her home in 2000. She spent several days hosting our activities, providing meals and a place to sleep, and bringing us to her families homes for visits with her friends and family.
I learned Helena was a strong-willed woman who outlasted 3 husbands, raised 5 children, and built her home on the hillside overlooking the Olza River valley. She was still attending to farm chores during our visit. Helena was proud of the chickens, goat, and Heifer that were in her care.
She was born and grew up in a rural Moravian agricultural area during the communist rule of Czechoslovakia. She was survived by her two sons, Jan and Pavel, and three daughters, Miluse, Blazena, and Marie. Her extended family has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helena was laid to rest with her last husband, Frantisek Vesely and her mother, Marie Czudkova, in this hillside Kosariska Cemetery.
Today (2011) I communicate with her grandchildren via the internet and on Facebook!
NOTES:
Her biological father is unknown at this time [13-Nov-2014]
