RIFE S. HUGHEY, Jr. OBITUARY

Age 90, long-time Nashville resident, IBM Branch Manager, consultant to The Mathews Company, and friend to many, died April 17, 2009.

Born in Atkins, AR in 1919, Rife graduated from Hendrix College where he met Annette Phillips Hughey, his wife of sixty-six years. In 1941, he joined IBM. A year later, he entered the U.S. Army where he served at The Presidio in San Francisco, in the Philippines, and in Japan on General MacArthur's staff. He achieved the rank of Major and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in Tokyo for meritorious service. He returned to IBM after the war and moved to Nashville in 1957.

A loyal member of West End United Methodist Church and active in the community, Rife enjoyed serving on church committees, with The Metro Nashville Planning Commission as Vice Chair for 8 years, and as President of The Exchange Club. He was also a member of Belle Meade Country Club and The University Club.

He is survived by his wife, Annette; his children, Paula and Rife III (Buddy), and his nieces and nephews, Dr. John and Vikki Neblett, Dr. Paul and Kelly Neblett, Dr. Annette and Bill Evans, Bob and Lynn Gray, Joanna and Danny Lange, Peg Duval, and Tom and Sherri Young.
