Mrs. Cora Dothyl Thornton, age 95 of Pennington, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2007 in the East Texas Medical Center-Crockett. Mrs. Thornton was born November 11, 1911 in Pennington, Texas and had lived most of her lifetime in Pennington. Mrs. Thornton was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University where she received a Bachelor's degree. Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Trinity County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Thornton was a retired teacher and was also a member of the Pennington Baptist Church.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law David and Patricia Thornton, of Pennington; granddaughter Lori Blanchard and husband Kent, of Pennington; step-Grandson Greg Sharpe, of Oyster Creek; great-grandchildren Kris and Nick Sharpe, of Oyster Creek and Kale and Katie Blanchard, of Pennington; sister-in-law Irene Dominy Poe and husband Walter, of Pennington; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceded in death by her husband Hayne Thornton in 1974; sisters Hazel Brannen, Willie Mae Sanders and Ruth Welch; and brother John Dominy.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Cora Dothyl Thornton were held Sunday, October 28, at 2:00 p.m. in the Pennington Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Butler officiating. Interment followed in the Pennington Cemetery.
