Lucius Bentinck Cary, 10th Viscount Falkland, GCH, PC, liberal politician and colonial administrator.
Eldest son of Charles John Cary, 9th Viscount Falkland, a captain in the Royal Navy, and Christiana Anton or Auton. He was christened at St Marylebone Parish Church, London, on 2 Dec 1803.
He succeeded to the Falkland viscountcy in 1809 after his father's death in a duel.
He was elected to the House of Lords as a Scottish representative peer in 1831.
On 15 May 1832, he was created Baron Hunsdon, of Scutterskelfe in the County of York, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. This title gave him a seat in the House of Lords. Five years later he was admitted to the Privy Council.
He was Governor of Nova Scotia from 1840 until 1846.
Returning to England, he held office in the Whig government of Lord John Russell as Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard from 1846 to 1848.
In the latter year he was appointed Governor of Bombay, in which post he remained until 1853.
He returned to England the same year and later served as a magistrate in Yorkshire.
He married:
firstly 27 Dec. 1830 at St Nicholas' Church, Brighton, Sussex, Amelia FitzClarence, natural daughter of William IV, who gave away the bride. They had one son, Lucius William Charles Frederick Cary, who predeceased him without issue.
secondly 10 Nov. 1859 Elizabeth Catherine Gubbins, widow of the 9th Duke of St Albans.
He died on 12th March 1884 at Montpellier, France, and was buried there.
He was succeeded in his titles (except for the barony of Hunsdon) by his younger brother Admiral Plantagenet Pierrepont Cary.

He is remembered with a plaque in All Saints Church, Hutton Rudby, near where his first wife is interred.
