The community was saddened Sunday when it learned of the death or Mrs. Ben Mott, 44, who passed away at her home at Newell following an illness of about a week. It seems the family had been suffering with what was believed to be the summer flu, which later developed into pneumonia and Mrs. Mott became seriously ill only a few days before she passed away. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and three children, Elsie, Verlee and Edward. Verlee is now in the Cherokee Hospital afflicted with the same disease, which proved fatal to her mother. Funeral services were held in First Methodist Church in Newell, Iowa at 2:30, Wednesday, July 25, 1945 and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Dr. Karl W. G. Hiller, who spoke from the text; Psalm 144 12, 13. Music was rendered by Mrs. Gladys Pullen and Mrs. Erma Hunter with Mrs. Mabel Waskom as accompanist. Selections were "The End of a Perfect Day" and " I Come To the Garden". Pall bearers were Cleo Johnson, Will Hase, William Henrich, Harold Pullen, Fay Hines, Lester Kelly. Floral arrangements were in charge of Mrs. Fern Larson and Mrs. Sigurd Nielsen and Mrs. W . C. Paeper. Interment was in Newell cemetery. Lena, daughter of Jacob and Barbara Imhoff Feitz, was born November 2, 1900, at Wayland. Iowa. On Sunday, July 22, 1945, she departed for the heavenly home at the age of forty-four yrs., eight months, twenty days. Her childhood, youth and young womanhood was spent in that portion of Iowa, surrounding Wayland. Here she finished the schooling provided by that early day. The cultural and religious atmosphere of the community was of that wholesome type afforded by the Amish-Mennonite-Moravian denominations which centered at and radiated from the Amana colonies. Much of the teaching of her early days had a profound effect on her later life. In Davenport she made the acquaintance of Ben Mott and on August 4, 1926 at Davenport, they were united in marriage. They lived one- and one-half years in Davenport. Then followed two years in farming in Illinois. In 1930 they came to Sac County Iowa and settled in the Galbraith neighborhood in Douglas Township. This has continuously been their residence since first coming. There came to bless the union three children, Elsie Louise, Verlee Ann and George Edward, all of whom still reside in the parental home. Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Barbara Feltz of Salem, Iowa, four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Rose Klopfenstein, Mt. Pleasant. Anna, Homer, Bessie (Mrs. Ben Schumacher) and Malinda (Mrs. Jesse Able). One sister preceded her in death.
