Irene M. Alkire, 87, of Fairmont, Bellview Community, died on Saturday (Feb. 2, 2008) at Wishing Well Manor in Fairmont. She was born on June 29, 1920, in Circleville, a daughter of the late Edwin W. and Sarah Kathern Mallow Alkire. Miss Alkire graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1937. She had worked for Consolidation Coal Company, Champion Stores and Wilson Ford.She was a member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church. Irene was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She loved and enjoyed her family.She is survived by one sister, Pauline Hall of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Lillian M. Alkire of Morgantown; nieces and nephews, Carole Straight of Elkins, Charles Alkire of Fairmont, Berry Alkire of Enterprise, Mark Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio, Pamela Armstrong of Indiana, William Alkire Jr., Rebecca Scott of Florida, and Deborah Carew of Florida; and several great nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles B. Alkire Sr., William J. Alkire Sr., Edwin Alkire Jr. and James E. Alkire; a sister, Virginia Jone; and two sisters-in-law, Isabelle Alkire and Patty Alkire.Friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, today from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Karen Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Farmington.
