James "Jim" Howard Grant, 84, departed this life on September 19th, 2022. A lifelong resident of the Brockway area, he grew up on the family farm, where he lived a long and full life working in public service, farming, traveling, enjoying country living, and being among family and friends. He graduated from Brockway Area High in 1956 and the Pennsylvania State University in 1960, majoring in math and physical science. He served for 35 years as a math teacher to generations of Brockway Area Junior-Senior High School students until his retirement in 1995 and for a time was president of the Brockway Area Education Association teachers' union.

A Presbyterian by faith, he held numerous positions in the Brockway Presbyterian Church, from elder to educator to treasurer. A longtime supporter of the Jefferson County Fair, he served as Fair Board Secretary for decades. A dairy farmer, he was a member of the Sugar Hill, Jefferson County, and Roseville Grange and was active with the Grange in county, state, and national events, as well as with the Jefferson County Dairy Promotion Board. He and his wife, Evelyn, delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. He was a member of the Mengle Memorial Library Board of Directors and served as master of ceremonies for Memorial Day services at the Beechwoods Cemetery. His activities with local organizations over the years are far too numerous to provide a complete list. He was named as Brockway's Man of the Year in 2007 and he wrote a monthly column in The Courier Express starting in 1991 chronicling many aspects of his life experiences, which recently concluded. He enjoyed dry humor, good food, and good fellowship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred Cooper Grant, who died from complications of pneumonia days after his birth, Howard Grant, and Dereatha Grinder Grant. He married Evelyn Mowrey Hicks Grant, who survives, on April 4, 1969. He is also survived by children Wendy (Richard) Smith of Westville, William (Jill) Hicks of Brockway, and Tim Hicks of Brockway, as well as grandchildren Holly (Deepak) Donahue Singh, Dana (Jenny) Donahue, Lindsay (Jim Vito) Ashcroft, Lorae (Steve) Murray, Sarah (Mike) Welch, Michael Schachter, Daniel (Krystal Yale) Hicks, and Adam Hicks. He delighted in watching his great-grandchildren Anushka Singh, Eleanor Donahue, Mason and Kaden Ashcroft, Raylin and Paysen Murray, and Josie and Pearl Welch, grow.
