Jacob Laschlinger was an owner of a carriage and wagon manufacturer in New Hamburg, Ontario. Later, he was the town's postmaster for many years.

Jacob married Johanna Caroline "Jane" Krause on March 3, 1872, in Waterloo, Ontario. She died on August 25, 1880, in New Hamburg.
