James Hairston Kirk, 74, died Tuesday morning at his home, 636 Capitol Ave., SE.
Mr. Kirk, a native of Cherokee County, had lived in Atlanta most his life. He retired about 1923 after serving 18 years with the Atlanta Police Dept.
He was a member of Capitol Avenue Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at North Atlanta Baptist Church. The Rev. Jon A. Pirtle, the Rev. R. L. O'Brien and the Rev. Orville Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife; a son, J. R. Kirk of Atlanta; four brothers, Will, Tom and Ike Kirk, all of Athens, Texas, and Howard Kirk of San Diego, Calif., and three sisters, Mrs. George DeFoore of Atlanta, Mrs. Tiny Elrod of Canton and Mrs. Lora Rains of Terrell, Texas.
