George was the 5th of 7 children born to Leroy Floyd Bailey (1863-1943) and Ida Ethel Boice (1889–1964).

George met his wife Ellie in Germany while serving in the military. They later divorced.

George was awarded the Bronze Star in Korea and Vietnam.

George died in a VA Hospital in Florida where his sisters Wilma Ruth Bailey and Eva June Bailey were at his bedside.
