He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Don Abernathy; one grandson, Cole Abernathy; two spouses, Jo Anne Abernathy and Katie Abernathy; seven brothers and one sister.

Ted is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law; three grandchildren and their spouses; and seven great grandchildren.
