Hazel G. Carr Bramlett, 86, of Salmon, passed away 2 November 2003 at the Discovery Care Center in Salmon, Idaho. She was born 3 October 1917 in a tent near Big Pine, California, the oldest daughter and fifth child of the Indian Wells Valley pioneer family of Vernon and Anabel Carr. Hazel's dad, Vernon, who made his living with his horse team and wagon, was building a bridge over the Owens River at the time of her birth. The Carr family camped on Big Pine until the bridge was finished. The Carr family returned to their homestead near Inyokern with their new baby girl. She was raised on the homestead and attended Inyokerm School until the 10th Grade, then finished high school at Bakerfield High. Hazel was the Alfalfa Queen of Iyokern as a young teenager. She also worked at the Homestead Restaurant on Highway 395. Hazel married Tom Bramlette of Little Lake, California in 1936. She spent the years following raising three children, helping with running the business there, plus opening the lake during the spring for fishing and in the fall for duck hunting. She was also the Little Lake Postmistress for several years. They sold their property at Little Lake in 1963, then bought a place and moved to Salmon, Idaho. Hazel lived a full life in Idaho. She loved to fish, hunt and garden. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker who always welcomed company to her home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Tom Bramlette of Salmon; son, Bill(Wilma)Bramlette of Salmon; daughters, Lorraine Miller of Salmon and Arlyne(Phillip)Lopez of Trona, California; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Helen Moore of Portland, Oregon; sister-in-law, Lois Carr of Ridgecrest, California and sister-in-law, Ellen Carr of Inyokern. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Clarence, Donald, John and Raymond Carr. Funeral services are planned for a later date in Salmon. Arrangements are under the direction of the Salmon River Funeral Home.
