Pioneer Alaska resident David C. Prator, 77, a retired civil service pipefitter and plumber, died March 14 at Providence Hospital. A memorial service was held at Kehl's Forest Lawn Chapel. Burial will be at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery in the spring.
Mr. Prator was born April 29, 1913, in Queen City, Texas. He moved from Texas to Alaska in 1939. He homesteaded in Rabbit Creek in 1951 and lived in Bird Creek for 17 years before moving to Anchorage in 1986. According to his family, he was an avid gardener and loved to travel in Alaska. He was quite knowledgeable of historic sites in Alaska, his family said.
He is survived by his wife, Frances of Anchorage; his son, D. Mark Prator Sr. of Anchorage; his daughters, Melba Hosken, Leah Keller and Donna, all of Anchorage; his brothers, Harry Jr. of Anchorage, Robert of Texarkana, Texas; and his sister, Merle Stuckey of Nashville , Ark.; and seven grandchildren.
