30 Dec 1819, Madison Co, AL Marriage License Return for John GILLELAND (GILLILAND) to Sarah BRASIER / BRASURE (BRASHER), proving that she was not maiden name BRASILL, despite the error on her modern marker. (I assume an early researcher mistook the ill formed letters -er on BRASIER as -ll, hence BRASILL). I first personally located this marriage certificate (showing correct maiden name) in March 1992 at the Huntsville / Madison Co, AL Public Library (Marriages; Madison Co, AL, 1818-1831, Vol-2-3; p. 56; the original is in MB 3, pg 15), PRE-INTERNET, pre-mass publication. This erroneous grave marker, citing maiden name BRASILL was placed ca 1992 (as I first visited the cemetery for genealogy purposes ca March 1992). This modern marker replaced the worn, original marker which is still somewhat legible which (original) does NOT list the maiden name of BRASILL (or otherwise). BRASILL is an error, BRASIER / BRASURE / BRASHER is correct. I was also instrumental in helping to ID her parents & siblings as I descend from two of her brothers 5x on my paternal side. DNA seems to confirm & a comparison of a photo between Sarah & her bio nephew (son of brother, Isaac Long Brasher) shows strong family resemblances. Much misinformation exists on John and Sarah Brasher Gilliland that I hope to help correct it.
