Dorothy Byrd, age 97 of Amarillo entered the gates of Heaven on August 25, 2022.

The family will gather privately to celebrate her life at a later date. She will be interred next to her beloved husband in Dreamland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Dorothy was born on January 3, 1925 in Randall County to her parents, Carl and Alice Richards Anderson. In 1942 she married her high school sweetheart JoZach Byrd and for the next 67 years, until his death in 2010 they would live a wonderful and blessed life together. The couple had two children, Ben and Dettie.

The family moved to Ruidoso in 1983, it was there that Dorothy owned and operated The Byrd's Nest an gift and apparel store for over thirty years. The family returned to Amarillo in 2005 after retirement.

Dorothy was a strong and devoted Christian woman and a member of First Baptist Church Amarillo. It was thought she had a direct connection with God. She had a way of being able to encourage those with the exact verse they needed to hear. She continually prayed for and blessed her circle with her biblical knowledge and faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband JoZach Byrd; her son, Ben Byrd; a sister Juanita Johnston; and her beloved dog, Sophie.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Dettie Byrd of Canyon; her daughter-in-law Sally Byrd of Canyon; her nieces, Ann, Debbie, Nicci and Jo; nephew Roy; and by her family in heart, Susan Fenberg, Nancy Boyce, David, Iris, Natalie and Josiah Ramos.
