The Brockway Record, Brockway, Pennsylvania · Friday, December 01, 1944

Gerald Hubert Harding

Rarely has a case of serious illness in Brockway created the universal sympathy and interest as did that of little Jerry Harding, who died on Monday night, Nov. 20, at about 11:55 o'clock, following 17 days of desperate illness.

Nine-Year-Old Jerry became ill on Friday, Nov. 3, and from the first his condition was regarded as serious. He was taken to Maple Avenue Hospital in DuBois and at the end of the week it was deemed advisable to take him to the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh where every device of science and the best professional skill availed nothing and the child passed away at the time stated. The cause has been diagnosed as a form of sleeping sickness.

Gerald Hubert Harding, son of George J. Harding and Laura Faust Harding of Lanes Mills, was born in Ridgway, March 7, 1935 the family has resided in Lanes Mills for a number of years and Jerry grew tot he age of nine years in that community, happy with his brothers and sisters, his little neighbors and friends. He was a bright, attractive boy sweet tempered and affectionate. He was a student in the Brockway-Snyder schools and a member of the Methodist Sabbath school at Lanes Mills.

Jerry is survived by his parents and the following sisters and brothers: Imilda, of Washington, D.D.; Kathryn, of Indiana, Pa.; Jack, Ann, Jean, Carol and Paul at home.

It is not death

'Tis but a brief concealment

Of God's great plan

When those we love must go

It is not death

It cannot be bereavement;

They're but transplanted

There to bloom and grow

Among those from a distance attending the services were Rev. and Mrs. Miller Harding and son Francis of Clymer, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Harding and two children, Ridgway; Mrs. P. E. Burt and son Robert, Wilkinsburg, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCurdy and son LeRoy, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Joseph Tiefel, Rochester, N.Y.; Miss Harriet Faust, Ridgway, and Mr. and Mrs. Foster Brown and son, Clearfield, Pa.
