Mr. Cole was a member of the University of Alabama football team from 1964-1966. Cole, a Crossville, Alabama native, played on the offensive and defensive lines for coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's Crimson Tide. Alabama went 30-2-1 during Cole's time with the Tide, winning national championships in 1964 and 1965. Alabama went 11-0 and won its third straight SEC title during Cole's senior season of 1966, but infamously was shut out of winning a third consecutive national championship. Cole was selected as an All-American in 1966, and was chosen as one of the Crimson Tide's permanent team captains at season's end.
