Stan ("Silliman") Solloway died before dawn Sunday, October 9 after a 17-year battle with spinal cancer.

Stan was a beloved husband, father and humorist who wrote, published and performed comedy onstage. He was a business owner and member of the Norman Chamber of Commerce.

Born July 18, 1943, in Woodward, Oklahoma, Stan was the son of Zelda and Louis Solloway, brother to Gene, Dan, Robert, Sheree and Gloria Solloway. He married Orin Garonzik in1968. They have one daughter, Sylvan Solloway of New York City.

Stan's creative productions include thousands of jokes, hundreds of sports humor columns, six published cartoon comedy books, plus online work on sites like Bleacher Report and "Kwipster." He performed comedy onstage in New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Denver, Dallas, plus weekly performances in the Oklahoma City area.

In 2014, Stan was named "Oklahoma's Funniest Person", after winning a Comedy Contest at the Loony Bin. His book, "The News in Double Dactyls" won the Oklahoma "Best Book of Poetry" award for 2002. Stan was a longtime member and former president of the Norman Galaxy of Writers. An avid sports fan, it was fitting that the Oklahoma City Thunder named him "ThunderDad" this year.

A graveside service will be held at Emanuel Hebrew Cemetery in Oklahoma City on Thursday. Also a celebration of Stan Silliman's life and humor is planned for Sunday, October 16 at Othello's.
