Dorothy was the daughter of Isaac & Drusilla (Lydick) Buckingham. Her father was from Greene County, PA. Her mother was born in Ohio.

Dorothy was one of 5 children, her siblings were: Llama, Laura, Lydia and Cassie.

About 1865 she married Zebulah James. The couple lived in Liberty twp of Hardin County where Zebulah was a farmer. The couple had 5 children, (4 are Emmett, Della M, Clara & Clyde E)

Note, Dorothy was a descendant of William Buckingham, (1635-1701) who came to Chester County, PA with his son John in the 1680s.
