Sister Anastasia "Anne" Coffey CND (Sister St. Daniel Miriam)

Sister Anne Coffey (Sister St. Daniel Miriam) of the Congregation of Notre Dame was born on January 25, 1925 in Read, ON and died peacefully at the Sisters of Providence Motherhouse on August 13, 2022.
She was the daughter of the late Daniel Coffey and Anastasia Shannon and was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Daniel, Austin, Charles, Francis and by her sisters Lucille Smith, Helen McAdam, Marie Anderson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. She is also fondly remembered by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, former students and numerous friends.

Sister Anne's education began in St. Mary's School, Read ON, followed by high school at Notre Dame Convent in Kingston, ON. On completion of high school she entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1943, making her Religious Profession in 1945. Thus began a long and fruitful ministry which included teaching piano and directing choirs in Summerside and Charlottetown PEI, Cornwall ON, Toronto ON, Brockville ON and Westport ON.

Retiring from teaching she served in the Liturgy Office of the Archdiocese of Kingston followed by a term as Local Leader in Cornwall. In 1983 Anne made a change in her ministry and began studying nursing at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg Man., specializing in Geriatric Nursing. At the completion of her training she became the Director of Nursing Care at the Infirmary at Notre Dame Residence in Kingston for the next eighteen years. Upon her retirement she volunteered at St. Joseph's Parish until she moved to Notre Dame Community at the Providence Motherhouse. Wherever Sister Anne ministered she entered into the life of the community and made many life-long friends.

Visitation will take place for Family and Friends at the Township Chapel of the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Homes 435 Davis Drive on Wednesday, August 17/22 from 2-5 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on August 18/22 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 392 Palace Road, Kingston ON. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

A Reception will take place at St. Joseph Parish Hall.
