ROGERSVILLE-A young man was killed early Saturday morning after he was reportedly struck by a Norfolk-Southern train.

According to a report filed by Deputy Clifton Evans, of the Hawkins County Sheriff's Department, the man was identified as Timothy Carl Reagan, 21, Hawkins Street, Rogersville.

The train's engineer, Martin L. Stanley, told the deputy the train was headed east bound at approximately 35 miles per hour shortly after 2 a.m. and had just passed the Honeycutt Road crossing when he observed an individual sitting on the railroad track.

The engineer said he did not see the man until the train was approximately 20 to 30 feet from his location because visibility was limited due to extremely foggy conditions. Stanley said as the train approached Reagan "never moved or looked up."

Upon impact Stanley said he put the train into emergency brake procedure and stopped, the report states.

In addition to emergency medical personnel, HCSD Detective Jeff Greer responded to the scene.
