Mrs. Othniel Waterman died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alice Jones, near this village, Saturday morning, aged 81 years, 10 months, and 20 days. Funeral services were held Monday, Rev. Kilbourn preaching the sermon. The remains were interred in the Lincoln cemetery.
Mary Gambia was born in the town of Camden, Oneida county, N. Y. on March 15, 1817. She was married to Othniel Waterman of Onondaga county, N. Y., in 1839. To this union was born six children, F. C., Sarah A., Chas., Mary E., Adelaide, Theodore and Henry, the last two dying in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Waterman moved to Hamilton, Ind., in 1840, while it was a wilderness, and with his brother cleared a farm. They lived at this place until '52 and then moved to Milwaukee, and Mr. W engaged with his brother-in-law in manufacturing cream brick. Two years later he purchased a farm near Bangor and the family lived on for a couple of years and then moved to Fox Lake.
Mr. Waterman moved to this county after his boys went into the war, and the family lived on the farm until Mr. Waterman's death in 1882. Mrs. Waterman, or "Grandma" as she was called lived with her daughter, Mrs. Alice Jones for the past six years. MRs. Waterman joined the Methodist church when she was 14 years of age, at Utica, N. Y., and during all the years of ther life was in good standing in the church and exemplified the life of a Christian throughout.
