Mildred was born March 11, 1911 in Fannin County, Texas, the daughter of Ulta Thomas Herriage and Bessie Amanda Farmer Herriage. She was a graduate of East Texas Teachers College in Commerce and received her Kindergarten Teacher's degree in 1968. She taught school for 34 years in Knott, Elbow, Bartley Woods, Gober and Bonham. Mildred was a member of the Beta Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Sorority and was a member and past president of the Retired Teachers Association in Bonham. She was also a member of the Texoma Concert Association in Denison. An Ombudsman for the Texoma Council of Governments, Mildred was awarded the Volunteer Citizen of the Year in 1998 presented by Charleton Heston. She was honored by Governor Rick Perry with the Yellow Rose of Texas 100 year Award. Mildred was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary "Pink Ladies" for a number of years. She was a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church in Bonham where she taught children's Sunday School classes for many years. Mildred enjoyed stamp collecting, quilting, reading, and listening to country music. She loved watching the Dallas Mavericks and was featured in the Dallas Morning News as the oldest fan. She enjoyed visits from her daughter-in-law's grandkids, Bo, Brock, Blair, Brianna and Landry. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Noel Young Burnett, her parents, two brothers, Joe Willard Herriage and Pete Herriage, and two sisters, Faye Haney and Melbadene Herriage.
She is survived by her son, Lanny Joe Burnett and wife, Cindy Baker Burnett of Bonham, Texas,brother, Jack R. Herriage and wife, Peggy of Lipscomb, Texas, sister-in-law, June Burgess of Bonham,Texas, nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Herriage, James Shockley, Bill Sanderson, Chandler Burnett, Quentin Burnett and Johnny Burnett.
