George Walter Prater married Anetta Jane Jones in Johnson Co., Arkansas and they became the parents of eleven children. At the time of George's death, they were living in the Mountain Top area of Franklin Co., Arkansas, when George and a neighbor, Richard Goodnight, had a severe disagreement over livestock. The disagreement escalated into a fight and George was killed by Goodnight with a knife, during this altercation. Richard Goodnight was convicted of second degree murder and was sent to the state prison.
