Shirley Rhea Fritts Bonneville, 87, of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022 after a lengthy battle with dementia.

Shirley was born in Lenoir City, Tennessee on April 25, 1935. After graduating from high school, Shirley moved to Virginia to take a job at the FBI. She met Charles "Charlie" Bonneville and married him in May 1954. Their son, Charles Jr., was born in 1955 and daughter, Cathy, was born in 1958.

Shirley worked as a bank teller and school secretary. In the early 1970s, she became a program assistant at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, a job that allowed her to travel throughout the country. Before retirement, she returned to the school system and served as a secretary and cheerleading coach at Yorktown High School. Shirley was active at Central United Methodist Church, serving as a soloist, choir member, president of the United Methodist Women and Sunday school teacher. She loved to travel, she and Charlie traveled the United States and throughout the world. However, the centerpiece of her life was her family. She was so proud of all her family and was blessed to share lots of activities and family vacations together. Shirley's family extended to close friends. She loved every child and dog she encountered and never met a stranger. She embraced life and was at the center of every party. She always made us laugh at her antics, even when she didn't mean to. Shirley was happy and always looked for the best in people; she shared her gifts and made people feel special.

Survivors include her children, Charles Jr. (Bonni) and Cathy Hix (Chuck); grandchildren Michael, Lauren, and Alex; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; parents Mary and George Fritts, parents-in-law Gladys and Charles Bonneville; and siblings John, Ralph, Blanche, Clyde, George Jr., Mildred, Helen, Elizabeth, Elaine, Betty, Rose, Charlotte, and William.

A service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
