Vergas

LaVonne "Lonnie" Luella Leick, 88, of Vergas, Minnesota, passed away peacefully, May 26, 2022, surrounded by her family, at a care facility in Fargo, ND.

LaVonne was born February 21, 1934, to Benjamin and Frieda (Edinger) Fischer, and is one of 10 children. LaVonne is survived by her two children: David, and Lori (Steve); six grandchildren: Ashleigh, Caitlin, Ryan, Skylar, Rachel and Catia; and six siblings: Vivian, Grace, Leo, Dick, Timmy, and Larry.

LaVonne grew up on the family farm in Benedict, ND., then traveled the states for education and work. Later, she met John "Jack" Leick, and they married on July 1, 1961. Shortly thereafter, they moved to the Vergas/Pelican Rapids area. There they purchased lakefront property, where they started and developed Leick's Resort, on Franklin Lake, in 1965. They grew their business into a very successful vacation/fishing resort, to include 8 cabins, small cafe, bait shop, boat rentals, and more. It became a popular destination for people to spend their summer vacation, and had families traveling from all over the upper Midwest to relax and of course spend time with "Jack and Lonnie." LaVonne worked tirelessly to make it the best place to vacation, and raise her two children.

LaVonne was loved by everyone who met her. She was also the "best mom in the world," to her children. LaVonne was a self-made carpenter, who built several homes with the help of her family. She loved entrepreneurship and was passionate about her family, her land, and her love of creating. She was an extremely supportive mom and grandma, and was always telling everyone to "take care of you," first. LaVonne was also a strong Christian woman who loved God, and loved to play the piano.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 57 years, John Leick; sisters: Pat, and Bernie; and brother, Jerome.

A lakeside memorial service will be held July 1, 2022, at 2 pm, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, MN. After the service, a Celebration of Life for all family and friends, will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church, located across the street from the cemetery.

Memorials can be made in care of David Leick, 1131 36th Ave. W., West Fargo, ND., 58078. The family will use memorials to help defray funeral expenses.
