Worker In Church 85 Years Old Dies..
Edward F. Allred Services To Be Wednesday

SPRING CITY, Utah-Edward F. Allred, 85, died Saturday evening after a few weeks illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Anderson.

Mr. Allred was said to be the first white child born in Las Vegas, then Las Vegas, Mex., Sept. 5, 1856, son of James T. S. and Eliza Manwaring Allred. At the time of his birth, his father was in Las Vegas, called there by the Church as an Indian interpreter.

The family remained there for some time then came to Ephraim. In 1864 the father was called to Circle Valley as an Indian interpreter, the family going with him. During this time Mr. Allred barely escaped an encounter with warring Indians. The parents of Mr. Allred were both members of the Mormon Battalion and were well acquainted with the Prophet Joseph Smith in Nauvoo. The mother died in Circle Valley. Two years later the family returned to Ephraim, then moved to Spring City where he has lived during married life. He had been a farmer, and also worked in the early lumber industry. He worked in the canyons getting materials for construction of the Manti Temple. He served many years as a ward teacher and was a member of the High Priests Quorum at the time of his death.

In May, Mr. Allred with his son, Glen, visited the birth place of Mr. Allred for the first time. They motored to Alberquerque, New Mexico, where Max Allred, received iris wings in the flying school there. They also motored through Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and southern Utah.

He married Sally A. Billington Nov. 17, 1880. She died two
years after the marriage. In October, 1884, he was married to Elizabeth Overlade of Ephraim. She died seven years ago.

Of his eight children, six are living: Mrs. Edna Brough, Tremonton; Glen Allred, Ogden; Mrs. Sarah Justesen, Mrs. Ethelyn Anderson and Mrs. Lafern Jensen, Spring City; Mrs, Leah Christensen, Mt. Pleasant. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth D. Allred, 90; Mrs. Lovina Robinson, 79; Brigham L. Allred, 80; Spring City; Mrs. Malinda Griffiths, 81, Holladay and Kimball Allred, 74, Spring City.
