Obituary
Abbie Mae Bull was born in Scotland County, Missouri, on December 17, 1892, and departed this life on December 2, 1980, at the Davis County, Iowa Hospital, following an illness resulting from a broken hip on November 1, 1980. Abbie was the only daughter and eldest of the three children of Ernest Guy and Myrtle Eggleston Bull. She spent her early life in Scotland County, attending grade school at Brock, near her home, two years of high school in Memphis, after which she finished her high school training at Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College at Kirksville, Missouri. There she later earned her B.S. in Elementary Education. She taught school for several years in Scotland County from 1912 to 1928 among which were Brock, North Mt. Pleasant, North Barker and Wilson. In the fall of 1928 she left Scotland County and moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she taught in the Public School System for 28 years until 1956 when she returned to Scotland County to help in the care of her ill father. She remained on the family farm after the death of her father and later that of her mother. In 1966 she moved to Memphis and lived in her own home there until her accident. Abbie became a member of the Brock Methodist Church in 1905 and was an active member and acted as Treasurer as long as her health permitted. She was a 50 year member of the O.E.S., a member of D.A.R. and N.R.T.A. Though she never married and had no children of her own, she devoted her life to her students’ welfare and in the raising of her nephew and twin nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and one brother, Buford Bull, a sister-in-law, Velma Dieterich Bull, a niece Gwendolyn Bull, a great-niece, Jody Marilyn Hinds. She leaves to mourn her passing one brother, Chan, and his wife, Olive; a sister-in-law, Phoebe Bull; her nephew, Stanley Bull and his wife, Pat; her twin nieces, Carolyn, her husband, Dan Hinds, and Marilyn, and her husband, Leon Cowell, all of Memphis, Missouri; nine great-nieces and nephews and six great-great-nieces and nephews, many friends and neighbors.
