Gaylord Everett Miller, 97 of Ashland passed away on Friday afternoon, July 22, 2022 in his home.

He was born on June 1, 1925 in Ashland County, the son of the late Charles E. and Esther (nee Barnhart) Miller.

Gaylord graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1943. Following his graduation, Gaylord proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Throughout his military career, he served in Normandy, N. France, Rhineland, Ardennes, C. Europe including the Battle of the Bulge.

He married the love of his life on September 9, 1945 the former Beulah Imogene Barr. A relationship that began with the two of them picking strawberries on his father's farm, followed by a movie, and ice cream at Isley's. Together the family would call Ashland their home for almost 76 years.

Following his return from the service, he began his career working for only $25.00 per week at the Ashland Hardware. His new bride worked at Gallagher Drug Store. By coincidence in 1947 he heard that Home Hardware was for sale. He and Beulah decided to purchase the store with the assistance of a dear friend at Ashland Bank & Savings. The couple would own and operate the store for more than 60 years.

Gaylord was a lifelong member of the Christ United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees for many years. He was also a member of Harry Higgins Post 88 of the American Legion. In his retirement years, he and Beulah enjoyed wintering in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida where he loved boating.

He was inducted along with his wife Beulah into the Ashland High School Distinguished Alumnus Award Class in 2017.

Gaylord is survived by two daughters, Becky (David) Myers of Ashland and Jane (Michael) Ringler of Ashland; a daughter-in-law, Suzann Miller of Columbus; six grandchildren, April (Chris) Byrne, Matt (Becky) Myers, Aimee Toth, Amanda (Aaron) Wolfe, G. Brian (Meredith) Miller, Morgan Miller; 20 great-grandchildren; and nephew, Charles Rick Shriver of Colorado.

In addition to his parents, Gaylord is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mrs. Beulah Miller who passed away on January 30, 2021; one son, G. Mark Miller who passed away on January 18, 2019; one sister, Georgia (Glenn) Shriver; and a niece, Nancy Shriver Polan.

Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Christ United Methodist Church, 1140 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with the Reverends Kyle Gould and Tom Snyder presiding. Interment will follow in the Ashland Cemetery where the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christ United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank everyone at Sunshine Home Care for the loving and kind care they showed both Gaylord and Beulah.
