BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Calvert was born on Sept. 30, 1921 in Island, Kentucky. He married Ferline Evans on Oct. 19, 1940 in Hartford, Kentucky. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. In 1955, he came to Pampa where he was owner and operator of Calvert Welding Service for 32 years. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church and was a member and past master of Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge #1381 AF & AM. A. W. was a 32nd degree KCCH and was a member of the El Paso Scottish Rite Consistory, Khiva Temple in Amarillo, and Pampa Shrine Club. His great grandchildren affectionately called him "Tater," and he loved to play the fiddle as a volunteer at the Schneider House. Mr. Calvert was a Kentucky Colonel. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a brother, Leo Calvert, and by 2 great grandchildren, Shandra Snapp and Jarred Winegeart.
SURVIVORS: Wife: Ferline Calvert of the home; 3 daughters: Vicki Spencer and husband Paul of Hico, Jan Snapp and husband Allen of Pampa, and Marty Campbell and husband Jimmy of Montgomery; 6 grandchildren: Steven Guenther and wife Gayla of Amarillo, Rebekkah Gunn and husband Billy of Nemo, Shane Campbell and wife Shawna of Montgomery, Alana Winegeart and husband William of Borger, Shelli Minton of Spring, and Chad Snapp and wife Melissa of Pampa; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; and by several nieces and nephews.
∼Arvin was born the youngest son of Steven and Effie Myers Calvert. He left Ky. after he and Ferline married in 1940 going to work in the oil fields in Indiana and Ill. While working for Phillips 66, Arvin was transferred to Pampa, Tx. where he left Phillips and was self employed as a welder until he was 85. He worked a few hours and when he retired became bored just sitting in the house. He suffered from lower back pain and couldn't work. He died of a heart attack sitting in his recliner just before noon. Daddy died very fast, just the way he wanted to.
