James Redding Mixon was born in Conecuh County, Alabama on December 9, 1851. He was the son of Jehu Mixon & Fereby Woodham.
He came to Nacogdoches County, Texas. James was married Julia Ann McClammy on 27 June 1869. Their children: Pharley Ann, William Morgan, Albert Syndey, Martha Elizabeth, Laura Sophronia, Minnie Ola, James Jr, Sallie Catherine, Robert Michigan.
Then he married Mary Alice (Polly) Skeeters on September 5, 1888. They had three daughters, Leila M., Ethel and Lily D.
He was a Mason. He passed away in Cushing, Texas on March 9, 1932.
James lived to be 80 years, 10 months and 10 days old.
He is buried in Sect A Row 3.
