Mrs. Henry J. Hibbard

Died, May 20, 1916, Emma O. Hibbard, at Hood River, Oregon.
Emma O. Axtell, daughter of Thomas and Nancy Axtell, was born at Belgrade, Maine, September 4, 1847. At the age of eight years she with her parents and family moved to Waupaca County, Wis., and settled in what soon became known as the Axtell neighborhood, two and one-half miles south of Ogdensburg, on the east Waupaca road. There she grew to womanhood and in the year 8166 was united in marriage to Henry J. Hibbard, oldest son of Joe Hibbard, who was one of the very first settlers of Waupaca and will be remembered by the few old settlers now remaining there. In June, 1877, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hibbard, with their two children, Elwin and Manny, moved to the Pacific Coast, the oldest son, Herbert, having died a few years before this at Waupaca.
A few years later the little daughter died while the family resided at Goldendale, Wash. Her husband died at Dallas, Ore., June 23, 1914. Mrs. Hibbard had spent the winter at their old home at Hood River, where she was at the time of her death. The son Elwin alone survives and with his wife and three daughters and one son resides at Dallas, Ore.
Of Thomas Axtell's family of thirteen children but two survive, Ellen L. Damon of Sumas, Wash., and Mary A. Owen of Newberg, Ore.
