The Reading Eagle-Monday, February 27, 1911-MRS. OTTO J. HERTWIG DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS-Celebrated 36th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday and Seemed in Good Health
Caroline M. (nee Shick), wife of Otto J. Hertwig, aged 58 years, died suddenly at 12:45 a.m. today, at her residence, 31 North Ninth street. On Sunday the couple quietly celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary and Mrs. Hertwig appeared to be quite jolly and was in excellent spirits. About midnight Sunday she was suddenly stricken and passed away about an hour later. Eight months ago her son, Geroge W. Hertwig, who was manager of the Auditorium, passed away. Heart failure is said to have caused her demise.
Deceased was a native of this city and was a daughter of Christian and Mary Ann (nee Schmid) Shick, both deceased. Besides her husband, she is survived by these children: Edith M., Reading; William E., agent for the Adams Express Company, Rochester, N. Y.; Frederick C., Reading, and these sisters and brothers: Elizabeth M., wife of John Kauffman, this city; Mary E., wife of Rev. Philip J. Hoh, Phila., Emma B., wife of John Dersch, Reading; Margaret J., wife of Frank Dick, and Henry W., both of this city, and William J., agent for the Penn's Railroad at Pottsville. Deceased was an active member of St. John's German Lutheran Church.

Rev. Dr. J. J. Kuendig and Rev. Dr. E. T. Horn officated at the funeral of Caroline M., wife of Otto J. Hertwig, which took place for her residence, 31 North Ninth street. The remains were attired in a black silk dress and reposed in a square-cornered black cloth covered cedar copper lined casket, with plate glass top, silver trimmings, extersion bar handles and plate bearing name and age. Among the tributes were: Pillow, husband and daughter, lillies, daughter-in-law, Minnie; palm leaves and roses, son William and wife; violets, grandchildren, Ethel and Otto; wreath on pedestal, sisters and brothers; calalillies, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hertwig; Easter lilies, Hiram Hertwig and family; cala lillies, cousin Margaret, Kittanning, Pa., galas wreath on pedestal, employees of the Adams Express Company, Rochester, N. Y.; galas wreath, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Palmer; carnations, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bush; lillies, Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Smith, wreath on pedestal, Mr. and Mrs. John Rechrich; lillies, Mrs. Fett and daughter; pink carnations, Mrs. B. Larkin and daughter; daffodils, Mrs. Snyder and daughter; galas wreath, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Fett; galas wreath, William R. Henninger; carnations, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Arnold; pink carnations, Mr. and Mrs. C. Butler; pink carnations, Mrs. Bruckman; galas wreath, Mrs Kate L. Fett; pink carnations, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bailey; carnations, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Anderson; white carnations, Mr. and Mrs. L. Moyer; white carnations, Mrs. Mary Franks.
The bearers were six brothers-in-law, Henry and Hiram Hertwig, John Kauffman, Rev., Philip Hoh, John Dersch and Frank Dick. Interment took place in Charles Evans Cemetery. Undertaker Hunter Henniger had charge.
