Dorothy worked at Morton Frozen Foods in Crozet for 30+ years until she retired. She loved to play cards, cook, listen to bluegrass music and spend time with her family and friends. Dorothy was loved by so many and will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Merrill Millard Gibson on November 8, 1996. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, William Shifflett, Joseph Shifflett, and James Shifflett, two sisters, Irene S. McRay and Alberta Gurley.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David W. Gibson of Free Union; one sister Anna Lee Wood of Free Union and a host of nieces and nephews. A very special nephew Wade Walton who was like a second son to her.
Special thanks to Linda Brubeck, Lisa Gibson and Debbie Walton for their loving, gentle, and caring support they provided during this time. The family also wishes to thank Hospice of The Piedmont for the outstanding care she received. Especially Nurse Nina. We also thank Dr. Bruce Campbell for all of her care throughout the years.
A graveside service will be held at the Prize Hill Church Cemetery in Free Union, VA on Friday, July 15,2022 at 11:00 AM. Officiated by Pastor Eddie Deane.
Pallbearers: Ted Walton, Darren Powell, Wade L. Walton, Gary Wood, Christopher Wood, and Tommy Burley.
