William S. Shifflett, 84, of Free Union died Sunday, March 22, 1992, in a local nursing facility. Born July 29, 1907, in Greene County, he was a son of the late William Scott and Roberta Morris Shifflett. Mr. Shifflett was a retired farmer and was a member of the Good Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church. Surviving are four daughters, Irene McRay of Charlottesville, Dorothy Gibson and Anna L. Wood, both of Free Union, and Alberta Gurley of Ruckersville; three sons, William Edward Shifflett of Fredricksburg, Joseph T. Shifflett of Springfield and James I. Shifflett of Free Union; one sister, Julie Morris of Stanardsville; 18 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters Ellie Shifflett and Alice Morris and brothers Hobart, Odie, Whit and Garrett Shifflett. A funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Prize Hill Church by the Rev. C.C. Kurtz. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
