Bette Jo Boswell Meads passed away peacefully in her home in Florence, South Carolina on September 18, 2022, after a short illness.
Bette was born July 26, 1938, in Womack Hill, Choctaw County, Alabama and was the third of 8 children born to Carrie Lee and Leithal Raye Boswell. The family moved to Georgia early in her life and she graduated from Screven County High School in Sylvania, Georgia. There she married Phillip Glenn Meads, a native of Sylvania. They had one son, Michael Phillip "Mickey" Meads who was the joy of their lives. She returned to school to gain a degree in computer programming after raising their son and worked in this specialty for several years. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist church in Florence, South Carolina.
Predeceased by her husband, Glenn; son Mickey; her parents, Leithal Ray and Carrie Lee Boswell; and siblings, James Larry Boswell (Virginia), Jerry Lee Boswell and Evie Carole Boswell Ayer (Kenneth).
Surviving siblings, Charles (Carolyn) Boswell, Georgia Boswell (Jeff), Frankie Ann Boswell, and Jeannie Boswell as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bette was a wonderful wife and mother, well-loved by her family and friends. She was a special favorite of children, all of whom were drawn to her happy and loving personality and have happy memories of her in their youth. Of special note are her beloved friends and neighbors, Lana Balakhnin and her daughter Ariel, who thought of Bette as her own grandmother.
Funeral services will be held on September 24, 2022, at 11:00 am at Hiltonia Baptist Church in Hiltonia, Georgia, with the Pastor Darell Young officiating.
