Born the second of twelve to Mary and Edward Cronin 10/07/1951. Died 06/30/2022 surrounded by the love of her ten surviving siblings and her husband Stuart Dixon. Her parents Mary and Edward Cronin and brother Michael Cronin preceded her in death.
So Mary worked to put herself through school and earned her bachelors at Avila University, a masters from the University of Kansas, and a Ph.D from the University of Texas at Austin. She had a tenure of 31 years as a Professor of Special Education and Habilitative Services at the University of New Orleans. Dr. Cronin co-authored several college text books and standardized tests as well as classroom guides for educators who worked with special need students in partnership with Pro-Ed out of Austin.
Until this awful brain-sucking disease robbed Mary of her abilities one by one, she was highly regarded in her field and held leadership roles in multiple professional organizations.
She adopted New Orleans as her hometown until her family brought her back to St. Louis in 2016 for the loving care she received until her very last breath on Thursday, June 30, 2022.
And although Mary wasn't blessed with children of her own, she was a doting and loving Aunt to 25 nieces and nephews and their offspring (the number, honestly, I can't keep track).
The loss of Mary's sweet smile and caring spirit leaves a hole in our hearts.
Visitation will be 9:30 followed by Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, July 6th at St. Joseph's in Manchester, MO. Burial at Calvary Cemetary in St. Louis.
Rest In Peace, Mary.
