Chelan
Mancil A. Gray, 91, and a lifelong resident of the Chelan Valley, died Saturday, October 25, 2003 at Regency Manor Care Center.
Mancil was born September 28, 1912 in Chelan, the son of Henry and Georgia (Yates) Gray. He attended school in Chelan.
On December 14, 1935, he was married to Bernice Elder at Chelan.
In his younger years he owned and operated his own business cutting orchard props and logging. For some time, he was employed with Wenoka and Trout in the warehouse prior to fishing in Alaska.
Mancil's passion in life was mining. He was employed for a few years at the Holden Mine and also in Northern Idaho. He had also been employed in several hard rock mines mostly in the Methow Valley and had done some gold panning around the state. He enjoyed camping and trout fishing and had a terrific sense of humor.
Son, Frank, writes -- "Dad was a good Dad, but is wasn't until I had taken him commercial fishing that I really got to know him and for the years he spent fishing with me in Alaska he was more like a close friend or even a brother."
Survivors include a son, Frank of Manson; a daughter, Carol Burns and her husband, Joe of Silverdale (Tahyua); two sisters, Geneva Sidie and Eloise Jansen both of Wenatchee; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice on September 23, 2003; and a brother, Ivan Gray.
Services of Commemoration will be Thursday, October 30, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Precht Rose Chapel with Pastor Ed O'Dell officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Manson United Methodist Church or North Shore Bible Church.
Services are under direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
