Religious Figure. Born Antonio Vincenzo Guiseppe Bausa. Entered the Dominican Order and taking the name Agostino, he was ordained on 24 March 1845 by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusleum, Paolo Augusto Foscolo. From 1882 to 1887 he served as the Master of the Sacred Palace which is the office in charge of the Papal Household. Pope Leo XIII elevated him to the rank of cardinal on 23 May 1887. He was assigned as a Cardinal Deacon the decaonry of Santa Maria in Dominica (Santa Maria Novella). On 11 February 1889 he was appointed Archbishop of Florence and raised to the order of Cardinal Priests of Santa Sabina. Cardinal Bausa was a strong opponent of desecration of religious holidays and blasphemy and strongly loyal to Mary and the Eucharist. His preaching and numerous writings reflected these strong beliefs.
