Alma St. Clair Newman, age 94 passed away on June 29, 2022 after having lived a full
life of joy, laughter, travels, many friends, loving family and a rewarding career at General Electric.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Claude B. Newman; her parents, Nora Dooley St. Clair and John Leslie St. Clair; her sister Emily Catherine St.Clair and her husband, Clarence St. Clair; brother-in-law, James D. Melton; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and "Bink' Powers She is survived by her sister, Elnor St. Clair Melton, Atlanta, Georgia; two nieces, June St. Clair Atkinson (William Gurley), Raleigh, North Carolina; Bonnie St.Clair Lyle (Robert), Goodview, Virginia; three nephews, Michael Melton (Dale), Safety Harbor, Florida; Gregory Melton(Andrea) of Palm Harbor, Florida, and Steve (Faye) Powers of New Castle, Virginia. She also has great nephews and nieces along with many first cousins including, Mary Sue Plunkett of Vinton, Virginia and "Dinkie" Giles of Montvale, Virginia.

Her life was filled with the blessing of having lifelong friends and a caring church family from Barnhardt Baptist Church, Goodview, Virginia where she was a member, taught Sunday School, and participated in many activities of the church. From the time she was recognized as valedictorian of the 1945 graduating class of Montvale School, Montvale, Virginia, to her career at General Electric as being the first woman manager at that facility, she was always willing to be in charge and grateful for her opportunities.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 10:30 am – 12:00pm with the funeral service starting at 12:00 pm at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

The family wishes to thank her faithful and conscientious caregivers as well as the staff at Elm Park Estates.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Alma may be made to Barnhardt Baptist Church, 1033 Brittle Street, Goodview, Virginia 24095.
