He was a U.S. Army veteran, a carpenter, and a member of the Church of Christ.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Rachel Benton Yates, two brothers, and one sister.
Survivors include his son Charles (Sandy) Taylor of Platte City, Missouri; a brother, Billy Yates, and a sister, Margaret Salders.
