June Shirley Bales, 82, of Bethany, OK, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 16, 2008, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 27, 1925, in Berry, AL, and grew up near Salem, AL. She graduated from Berry HS in Berry, AL in 1943. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, TN in 1954, and obtained her Master's degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1959. She taught English, Speech and Drama in Michigan for two years, then moved to California where she continued her teaching career. She married Coit Bales on Dec. 19, 1959. She then moved to OK and later worked for Mardel Christian Bookstore for over 20 years. June was a longtime member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene where she was active in the Missionary Society. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, and her brother, Art Shirley. She is survived by her children, Tim Bales and wife Tonya of Bethany, Jani King and husband Darrin of Bethany; her brother, Ray Shirley and wife Frankie of St. Joseph, MI; and her four precious granddaughters, Taylor, Molli, Allyson and Emma. She loved God and was a devoted mother and grandmother! Family will receive visitors at Mercer-Adams, Sun., Jan. 20, 2:00-4:00pm. Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, 2:00pm at Mercer-Adams Chapel with interment in Bethany Cem. Memorials may be made to Nazarene Missions International, Bethany 1st Church of the Nazarene.
