BADGLEY, George - was born April 8, 1924 in Manor, Saskatchewan to William and Mary Olive Badgley. In 1933 his family returned to the Kinistino District and in 1936 homesteaded the Badgley farm about thirteen miles north of town. In 1957 George married Lilly Cumpstone of Biggar, Saskatchewan and they resided on the homestead until 1998, when they moved to Kinistino. George and Lilly have two daughters: Marian Hazel who lives in Camrose, Alberta with her children Jim (in Edmonton) and Julie; and Ethel Doreen who lives in Kinistino with husband Blaine and children Kevin, Andrew and Breanna. From 2009, George and Lilly lived in the Jubilee Lodge in Kinistino until he passed away peacefully on January 18, 2010.
George was forever willing to come to the aid of a friend or neighbour with a leaking roof, a sick calf or a broken tractor. Like most farmers of his generation, he was a carpenter, mechanic and veterinarian all in one, and he shared his time and abilities without question. He was quick with a smile or praise and always had a warm hello at the ready. We will miss his sense of humour and his twinkling blue eyes.
George is predeceased by two sons: Hughie and Bruce, and two daughters: Helen and Nancy. He is also predeceased by his parents, his brothers: Dave, Glenn, Arnold and Harvey.
Funeral service was held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Andrew?s United Church, Kinistino, SK with Major Michael Hoeft officiating. Honorary pallbearers were All of George?s Family & Friends. Active pallbearers were Jim Powell, Julie Powell, Kevin Tetz, Andrew Tetz & Breanna Tetz. Interment followed at Norden Lutheran Cemetery.
