Richard D. Walter
February 20, 1930 ~ June 9, 2022 (age 92)

Richard D. Walter, 92, of Exton, formerly of Doylestown, Pennsylvania and Melbourne, Florida, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Paoli Hospital.

Born in 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, Richard was the son of the late Harry and Emma (Fischer) Walter.

He was the beloved husband of Carol (Elsner) Walter, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Richard attended Frankford High School before proudly serving in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. During this time he earned the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal.

Richard had a lifelong love of the beach and enjoyed spending time at his home in Sea Isle City throughout the year. He took great pride in maintaining his homes, being outdoors, and continued gardening even up to his last days. His family and neighbors were always the recipients of his annual batch of tomatoes and string beans. He loved to keep his cars in "showroom condition", which often elicited compliments from passing motorists.

As a veteran, he had a deep appreciation for those who serve in the military branches, and he enjoyed reading about the accomplishments of such patriots.

While employed by Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania, Richard was a member of the Liberty Bell Chapter of Pioneers.

After raising a family in the Doylestown area of Bucks County, Richard retired from the Bell Telephone Company and fulfilled his dream of moving to Florida. He and Carol lived in Melbourne, Florida for almost 30 years before returning to Pennsylvania in June 2020.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children, Scott Walter and his wife, Hilary, and Holly McCartney and her husband, Sean; grandchildren, Harrison Walter, Ryan McCartney, Aaron McCartney, and Brett McCartney; and sister, Grace Walter.

Richard's family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 1 to 2 pm at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, followed by his memorial service at 2 pm.

He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in a private service for the immediate family.

n lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
