Demise Allen Gessel
Allen Gessel, aged 77 years, departed earth at his home near Beverly, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 1940. Mr. Gessel’s heath had been failing by degrees, and the eek preceding his demise his condition had been grave. Mr. Gessel was one of 10 children of the late John and Margaret Dobbins Gessel and was the last remaining member of the family of brothers and sisters. Mr. Gessel was born February 17d, 1863, on a farm at Macksburg. On January 13, he was united in marriage with Miss Lovisa Jeffers, who expired on April 23, 1940. Mr. and Mrs. Gessel were well known in this vicinity, having resided on heir farm near Beverly for the past 33 years. Surviving are four sons and two daughters, Harold Gessel of West Lafayette, Herbert and Bernard Gessel of near Beverly, Duel Gessel of the home, Mrs. Haze Silvis of Hackney and Mrs. Stella Brown, a daughter of a former union. There are twenty grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and other relatives. One son Delmar is deceased. Mr. Gessel attended the Church of Christ and was a member of the Muskingum Camp No. 7167 Modern Woodman of America. Funeral rites where held at the home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Rev Frank Donaldson pastor of the church of Christ officiating. Interment was in Beverly Cemetery. C. H. Mindling, funeral director, Nestor Taylor, Ivan Taylor, Edward Gordon, Elton Baldwin, Kile Gooden and Edward Harr served as pallbearers. The Modern Woodmen Lodge participated in the services
