Leona Wenndt
Leona Louise Wenndt, 75, of Wyoming died Monday, Feb. 29, 1988 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids of injuries she received in a two car accident almost two weeks before. Her husband, Ezra, was killed in the accident. She was born Nov. 14, 1912 at Mechanicsville, the daughter of Herman and Alma Hintz Brunscheen. She attended country school in the Wyoming area and following the death of her mother kept house for her father and five brothers. She married Ezra Wenndt on Dec. 20,1933 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Wyoming. Mr. and Mrs. Wenndt operated farms in Cedar County for a number of years until moving to their farm south of Wyoming in 1946. They retired in 1970 and moved to Wyoming. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wyoming, and had held offices in the ALCW and the Martha Esther Circle. She was a member of the Gospel Class, So and Sew Club and was secretary of the Congregate Meal Program at the Wyoming site. She was a former member of the Zion Church choir and taught Sunday School for several years. Survivors are three sons, Duane and Larry of Wyoming and Verlyn of Anoka, Minn.; six grandchildren and five brothers, Oliver, Everett, Herman, Donald and Kenneth, all of Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Funeral services for Leona Wenndt were held Friday, March 4, 1988 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wyoming. Burial was at the Wyoming. Cemetery. The Rev. Gregory Hanneman officiated. Pallbearers were Alan Brunscheen, Gary Brunscheen, Rick Brunscheen, Eugene Brunscheen, Terry Kroemer and Richard Fishwild.
