Tom started out as a mechanic, working for Stocker Chevrolet. He then purchased the "Gulf" station at Old Fort in Centre Hall and continued his mechanical work there. Later he worked as a mechanic for the Pennsylvania State University. He retired after 29 years of service. In his spare time, he continued mechanical work in his home garage and started repairing wrecked vehicles. He was known throughout the valley for his mechanical skills and could fix anything automotive related. After retirement, he moved to Tennessee, where he spent the last 15 years.
Tom enjoyed mechanical work. You could always find him working on some project. He was not one for idle hands. Although he enjoyed time spent in the garage, he cherished the time he spent with his three sons and grandchildren. He was a great dad, pap, and great grandfather, who loved his family very much.
Tom is survived by his three sons, Thomas L. Franklin of Spring Mills, Brian N. Franklin of Ebensburg, and Robert L. Franklin of Englewood, TN; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his eight siblings, Elizabeth M. Wyland, Coleen Cramer, Iva F. "Flo" Richner, Shirley Flood, Mona McCabe, Glen R. "Ray" Franklin, Benjamin Franklin and Duane Franklin. He was the last of his generation.
