Robert Abernathy Butler, Sr. (Bob) - age 76 of Nashville, TN passed away on June 16, 2022. He was born in Pulaski, TN, July 9, 1945 to the late, Alma Nelson and John Dennis Butler. Along with his parents, Mr. Bulter is preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Butler Greer and Frances Butler Shannon; brothers, John Milton Butler and William Pillar Butler; brothers-in-law, John David Greer, Sr. and Glenn Alvin Bowser; father-in-Law, Walter Ray Nipper, Jr. and mother-in-law, Mildred Pendergrass Nipper.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janie Nipper Butler; son, Robert Abernathy Butler, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Amy Trimble Butler; daughter, Amy Butler LaFrenz and son-in-law Matthew Morgan LaFrenz; grandchildren, Robert Abernathy Butler, III, Thomas Scott Butler, Taylor Grace Butler, Abby Dukes Butler, Jacob Morgan LaFrenz and Brooke Butler LaFrenz; sister, Jane Butler Bowser; sisters-in-law, Faye Nipper Ligon, Betty Sue Butler, and Faye Story Butler and brother-in-law, Bob Ligon.

Mr. Butler was a graduate of Giles County High School. He served our country in the United State Army and worked for a time at the Telephone Company in Columbia, TN. For over 38 years, he worked at Nashville Sporting Goods finishing his career as owner and president. He loved his customers and fellow associates. Following retirement, he enjoyed his hobby of servicing and repairing the neighborhood lawn mowers.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. "Bob Bo" adored his six grandchildren and loved supporting them in their sports and activities as well as treating them to Waffle House for breakfast. Mr. Butler enjoyed boating and skiing on Percy Priest Lake with his family and friends. He loved going to his condo and spending time at the beach in Destin, FL.

As an early riser, you could always find him on a tractor working in his yard or tending to his garden. He was a stranger to no one who met him and when asked how he was, his answer…"If I was any better, I couldn't stand it". Mr. Butler was a long time member of Crievewood Baptist Church where he also served as deacon.

A gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm and on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 9:00 – 10:00 am with a Celebration of Life Service at 10:00 am at Crievewood Baptist Church at 480 Hogan Road, Nashville, TN 37220. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
