Carolyn Jean Layton Sanford Chavis, 81, of Rockingham passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.
Mrs. Chavis was born May 19, 1941, in Bladen County, a daughter of the late Horace Wesley and Louise Barber Layton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmy Ray Sanford, sons, Mitchell Ray Sanford and Mark Alan Sanford, and brother, John Layton.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband Kenneth Chavis; daughter, Angela Sanford Watkins (Paul); grandchildren, Alex Watkins, Caleb Watkins, Kevin Sanford (Shelly), and Katelyn Sanford; great-grandchildren, Tristan Sanford, Ethan Sanford, Mason McLaughlin, and Zander Harris; brothers, Kenneth Layton and James Layton and sisters, Mary Frances Smith and Glenda Rogers.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Old Northam Cemetery in Rockingham with Rev. Butch Park officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
