Many residents of Ararat will regret
to learn of the death of Mrs Jane
Madex, wife of Mr Henry Madex, sen.,
which sad event occurred on Friday
last at the age of sixty-one years. The
deceased leaves a grown-up family of
three sons and four daughters, all of
whom live in the district, to
mourn their loss. The funeral took
place on Sunday afternoon last when
the remains of deceased were interred
in the Ararat Cemetery. The funeral,
which was conducted, by the Salvation
Army, was attended by a numerous
gathering of friends, and a large
number of wreaths and the Army flag
were placed on the coffin. The service
at the grave was conducted by Captain
Smith, of Ballarat, assisted by Lieuten-
ants Lawson and Newberry. The cof-
fin bearers were Messrs R. Gibson, W.
Gibson, A. Dovaston and H. Aston, and
the pall bearers were Messrs R. Aston,
P. Jones, H. Cracknell and A. North.
The funeral arrangements were in the
hands of Mr J. Dunn.
